THE REHABILITATION OF MAIN ROAD 240 FROM VREDENBURG KM 2.14 TO PATERNOSTER KM 14.92

Accommodation of traffic. All rehabilitation and surfacing work will be done in half widths while the accommodation of one-way traffic will be maintained on the remaining half width of the road. Traffic will be controlled in sections by means of STOP / GO control during day-time and traffic signals during night-time.
Install new pipe culverts where indicated and construct new concrete headwalls.
Where required, widen the existing road prism to accommodate the specified Class 3 cross section.
Add G5 quality material to existing gravel shoulder and rework to tie in with existing road surface.
Prime and surface reworked shoulder for traffic accommodation purposes.
Re-route one-way traffic onto widened roadway and construct fill in halfwidths to new road levels.
Construct new 150mm lower selected subgrade layer of G9 quality in halfwidths to new road levels.
Construct new 150mm upper selected subgrade layer of G7 (not sand) quality in halfwidths.
Construct new 150mm cement stabilized subbase layer of C4 quality in halfwidths.
Construct new 150mm G4 base layer in halfwidths.
Prepare, prime and finally seal the road with a 20 mm Cape Seal plus two (2) slurry layers in halfwidths.
All major intersections will be overlaid with a 40 mm continuously graded asphalt layer to accommodate the turning movements of large trucks.
Ancillary road works, including painted road marking, road signs, finishing off of the road reserve, installation of road studs, fencing etc.
